As a child, I always loved apple butter. I hadn’t seen or thought about it for years until I saw it on a Wal-Mart shelf while shopping. But as we know, homemade has so many more benefits (like knowing what goes into it, no preservatives or additives). So, when I saw an old friend (from gradeschool) post that she made this and some of her friends commented saying it was absolutely amazing, I knew I wanted the recipe.
And graciously, she shared it! (and even more graciously said I could share it with you!)
She guesstimated on the approximate amounts of apples, cloves and cinnamon she used, because like many other great’s in the kitchen, they just pinch, pour, and add without measuring, so these measurements are guesstimated and may need to be adjusted to your specific liking.
And for the Recipe….
Angie’s Crockpot Apple Butter

2 bags of apples (honey crisp, Washington and fugi apples) peeled and diced
5 cups sugar
1 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp (level) ground cinnamon
2 tbsp (level) ground cloves
1/4 tsp salt
Place diced and peeled apples in your crockpot- the apples should almost fill a 6 quart crockpot. Mix the sugars, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a bowl and pour over the apples, stir to coat the apples.
Cook on low for 15 hours stirring occasionally.
Wisk until smooth (if desired).
Place in mason jars to store.
*This makes 2 quarts cooked, once fully cooked*
